DO YOU KNOW

The FINISH is so called as it originates with the mouth-blown bottle production process, where the last step in completing a finished bottle was to “finish the lip.” It is also known as the LIP, MOUTH or CORKAGE.

The PUNT is the raised dimple-like area at the floor of the bottle. When bottles were handmade by glassblowers, these punts were added to ensure they could stand upright, by pushing the seam of the bottle up. It is also thought that deeper punts are associated with more premium wine. Punts are also known as KICK-UPS.
